So I gotta ask…What the fuck is up with people? Maybe I’m just getting too damn old, but I was over on the PA3 boards at imdb today, and I was in shock at the number of people who were OK with 95% of what was in the trailer NOT being in the film. It's being called a "new trend" and not bullshitting people...which is what it actually is. Now I’m not in the camp of that lady who is suing because she thought that Driver was The Fast and the Furious part 6, but I do want an honest trailer. You don’t have to give it all away, or seem to (see Dream House), but at least show me what you want me to pay for and not a bunch of stuff I won’t see until I check out the Extras when it hits DVD (see the game of chicken in the Faster [Blu-ray] trailer).

Perhaps it’s the fact that, in my opinion, not enough actually happens in a PA movie to make a trailer out of it and not give away everything? I’m not trying to hate on the franchise or those who like it, but I found the first two flicks to be some of the single most boring shit to ever “grace” my flat screen. But like Dennis Miller used to say “that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong”.

New URL/Branch

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

I've been looking at using Moviestorm not only for animated films, but also to create graphic novels. For this I've crated a new URL and Company/Branch Name for the Cubicle Prisioner Films family. It's called Painful Death Publications and will be found at
Painful Death Publications
. I'm going to be working on creating it this week so that it will be more than just a holder page.

Onward,
Jerry W. Hawkins

Kickstarter Attempt

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Made a submission to Kickstarter today in an attempt to get the first two animated features and graphic novels financed. I had to stay within a character count, but, if I'd had room below is the full script of what I would have submitted. What I sent was similar however, within their character limitations. They may except it or they may not, but either way I'm going to keep working to get these projects out there. You have to make your own breaks sometimes!

Q: What is your project?

A: This project will produce two feature length animated films from original screenplays (The Key and Lumberton Lake). It will also produce and distribute accompanying Graphic Novels for both films. The main purpose of this project is to bring more attention to the city of Fresno, CA and what it has to offer the film world. Voice actors, sound editors, etc will be culled from the Drama Programs at both Fresno City College and Fresno State University in order to provide experience and exposure to up and coming talent. Fresno, CA has much to offer the film world and this spring board project is intended not just to complete and distribute these films/graphic novels but to expose the talent available in this city to the world. Production is scheduled to commence by October 2011 with distribution scheduled to being by February 2012.

Basic set (animated background and interactive animated props) and character design for Lumberton Lake will commence July 11, 2011. All sets and characters will be completed and ready by the end of August 2011. Any sequences which can be animated without the use of voice actors (i.e. basic action needing only character movement, background sound, etc) will then commence. At the same time these scenes will be used to commence the creation of the Graphic Novels. This combination of projects has the goal of cutting total production time and to allow both projects to be completed within the time frame allotted. With full-time work these sets, character designs and scenes can be completed in a matter of 4-8 weeks for both projects (estimated time from start to completion July 11th – September 5, 2011).

Once those scenes are completed and funding is secured auditions will be held beginning on September 12, 2011 with an emphasis on members of the Drama Community from both Fresno City College and Fresno State University. Auditions will be held for one week (September 12- September 17, 2011). Rehearsals will then be held from September 19th – September 30, 2011 in order to finalize performances and limit the amount of studio time needed to record and edit dialog. Dialog recording will commence on October 3rd - October 21, 2011 at the latest (though less studio time is the goal).
Once dialog has been recorded and edited the scenes requiring actor voice work will be created and the dialog integrated into them. This process is estimated to take from 4-8 weeks to ensure quality. During this process sound editing will also be performed on background Sound FX as well as original music score. This process is estimated to take from October 24th – December 12, 2011.

Upon completion DVD distribution will be set up via a Create as Ordered Program along with the same for the Graphic Novels.

As the process moves through its stages a buzz will be built using social media such as Facebook, Youtube, etc to update the public and keep them coming back for more. Word of mouth will also be encouraged in order to create a public “buzz” surrounding these projects. A full Media Package will also be created in order to garner interest in the projects even as they are being created.

I feel that these projects will be a great start for many who need the exposure of their talent. It will also serve to bring attention to Fresno, CA and its filmmaking community. The final goal of this project is to bring the film industry to a city with much richness of talent and culture to offer.

Q: What rewards would you offer?

$21-$100: The above plus First Additions of the DVD releases and the Graphic Novels

All Contributors will also receive a Special Thank You on our Web Page along with our undying gratitude!
